Jorge Lozano |
Jorge Lozano is currently serving as Director of Fine Arts for Hidalgo ISD and
is the Head Band Director for the Hidalgo Early College
High School Mighty Pirate Band. Mr. Lozano directs
the marching band, Symphonic and Concert Bands as well
as teaches applied trombone lessons as an adjunct faculty
member of the University of Texas-Pan American.
Mr. Lozano earned
his Master of Music Education degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and his Bachelor of Music Education/Jazz Performance
from the University of North Texas. A native of Harlingen
and the Valley, Mr. Lozano aspired to be a valley
band director.
As an educator Mr.
Lozano served as an assistant band director at Richland
High School, Brownsville ISD, San Benito High School,
and McAllen High School. Under his direction at Hidalgo
ISD the fine arts department has evolved into an
exceptional program having attained Best 100 Communities
for Music Education in America in 2007-2009. Mr.
Lozano conceived a complete Orff-Schulwerk based
elementary music education program for Hidalgo ISD
as well as a state recognized theater arts, mariachi,
and folklorico dance programs. The Pirate Marching
Band continues amassing recognition as a consistent
UIL state finalist, TMEA Honor Band Finalist, USSBA
State Champion, and 13 Bands of America class regional
championships.
As a performer, Mr.
Lozano has performed professionally in the pit orchestra
for West Side Story—New York cast on tour in Italy,
France, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, and
Czech Republic. As a member of the UNT Lab Bands,
Mr. Lozano toured to Europe to perform in the North
Sea and Montreaux Jazz Festivals. Mr. Lozano also
performed as a member of the Concord Blue Devils
and the Geneseo Knights Drum and Bugle Corps.

Julie Wilson |
| Julie P. Wilson is the Associate Director of Bands with Hidalgo ISD, and Head
Band Director at Diaz Junior High. Starting her 19th
year as a Texas music educator, she hails from Western
Massachusetts where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Music Education from Westfield State College. Julie
earned a Masters Degree one year later in Music Education & Flute Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. Ms. Wilson has taught
with La Joya ISD, Corpus Christi ISD, Donna ISD, and
McAllen ISD serving as Head Band Director at Morris
Middle School. Ms. Wilson has placed many flute & piccolo students in the 3A, 4A, and 5A Texas All-State Bands, and in 2009 the
Diaz JH Gold Band won 1st Runner-Up in the ATSSB Outstanding
Performance Series State Finals. Now beginning her
8th year in Hidalgo, she continues to enjoy her students,
co-workers, and the entire community of Hidalgo! |

Gutierrez |
Maximo Gutierrez is
an Assistant Band Director/Brass Instructor with Hidalgo
ISD. Now in his 10th year as a band director, he is
currently in his 7th year as instructor of the French
Horn Studio in Hidalgo.
Mr. Gutierrez is
a native of the Rio Grande Valley, born in McAllen
and a graduate of P.S-J.A High School. He attended
Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State),
the University of Texas Pan American and earned
his Bachelor of Music Education from Texas A & M
University-Kingsville.
As a performer,
Mr. Gutierrez was a member of the Texas A & M
University-Kingsville Marching Band, Jazz Band,
Choir, Jazz Choir, Madrigal Choir and Trumpet ensemble.
He has also performed
in the pit orchestra for musical productions of
South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof and West Side
Story.
